FG releases FGCs admission list

The Federal Ministry of Education has announced the release of the 2024/2025 admission list for Junior Secondary School (JSS1) at the 115 Federal Government Colleges (FGCs), also known as Unity Colleges.

According to a statement from Boriowo Folasade, Director of Press and Public Relations, Federal Ministry of Education, parents and guardians are advised to check their wards’ admission status by visiting the Ministry’s website at www.education.gov.ng. Additionally, they may contact their ward’s first-choice FGC for further information and necessary actions.

In April, Minister of State for Education Dr. Tanko Sununu announced the results of the National Common Entrance Examination (NCEE) conducted by the National Examination Council (NECO) for candidates seeking admission into the FGCs. Of the 71,291 candidates who registered, 66,931 participated in the exam, while 4,360 were absent. The highest score achieved was 203 out of a possible 210, and 13 candidates scored the lowest mark of 1. The Minister also reported that 52 candidates, including 2 from Lagos State and 50 from Rivers State, were found involved in examination malpractice.

For the Federal Government Academy (FGA), 2,649 candidates registered, 2,336 took the exam, and 313 were absent. The highest score was 180, and the lowest was 5. The admission criteria for FGCs remain unchanged: 60 percent based on merit, 30 percent for equality of state representation, and 10 percent for exigency.

The Minister directed the Senior Secondary Education Department of the Federal Ministry of Education to ensure that all admission processes are completed in a timely manner according to these criteria. He assured parents that the government is committed to enhancing infrastructure, improving feeding programs, and raising teacher quality to support effective teaching and learning in the Colleges.
