GTBank denies website hack, cites connectivity issues

Guaranty Trust Bank (GTBank) has refuted reports that its website was seized by hackers, labeling the claims as entirely untrue. The bank’s website, gtbank.com, became inaccessible on Wednesday night, just one day after its domain was renewed until 2029. Despite the website disruption, GTBank’s mobile apps for Android and iOS continued to operate normally.

No hacker group has taken responsibility for the incident, and there are speculations that a fraudulent version of the website might have been created to phish for customer information. A cybersecurity expert suggested that the issue might involve compromised login credentials rather than a domain hijack.

A senior executive from GTBank, speaking to the Daily Post, clarified that the issue was due to a connectivity problem and not a hacking incident, dismissing the hacking allegations.
