PSC set to eradicate corruption in Police

The Police Service Commission (PSC) has announced plans to introduce written examinations as a new requirement for promotions within the Nigeria Police Force. This move is part of the Commission’s broader effort to enhance the quality and capacity of personnel management within the Force.

PSC Chairman, DIG Hashimu Argungu, disclosed this during a meeting with a delegation from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), led by Mr. Paul Turay. According to a statement by PSC’s Head of Press and Information, Ikechukwu Ani, the UNDP team visited the Commission to update its new leadership on ongoing collaborations and to secure the Commission’s commitment to maintaining these partnerships.

Argungu emphasized the Commission’s determination to eliminate corruption in police recruitment, promotion, and discipline. He expressed the Commission’s commitment to leveraging its partnership with the UNDP to fully exercise its authority over appointments, promotions, and disciplinary actions within the Nigeria Police Force.

During the meeting, Argungu assured the delegation that the PSC’s new leadership, including DIG Taiwo Lakanu (rtd), Honourable Commissioner, and Chief Onyemuche Nnamani, Secretary to the Commission, would continue to advance the existing UNDP-supported programs. He highlighted the importance of integrating modern information technology into the Commission’s operations to align with 21st-century standards.

Mr. Paul Turay, leading the UNDP delegation, congratulated the new PSC leadership and reaffirmed the UNDP’s commitment to strengthening the ongoing partnership. He emphasized the importance of continuity and sustainability in the programs, which aim to increase the Commission’s capacity and improve its overall effectiveness.
