Umahi absolves self, Tinubu of blame on shortfall in road distribution

Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, has cleared himself and President Bola Tinubu of responsibility for the current shortfall in road distribution across Nigeria. During a visit to Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed, Umahi emphasized that the issue of road distribution predates their tenure but assured that President Tinubu is actively addressing it.

Umahi explained, “The shortfall in road distribution is not the fault of President Tinubu or myself. However, President Tinubu is committed to resolving it. We have introduced the fourth legacy project, which extends from Akwanga to Jos and into Bauchi State. We are pleased to see the significant progress made on road interventions in your state.”

The Minister highlighted the President’s efforts to secure funding for these legacy projects through various channels. “President Tinubu is working to secure funding from China, as there was a prior agreement for foreign financing on these projects. Although the financing was delayed, the President is reviving this effort, and we are optimistic about securing the necessary funds for construction and dualization of the roads,” Umahi said.

During his visit, Umahi inspected several flood-damaged road sections, including the Kano–Maiduguri Road, and the dualization projects at Buskuri town and Sabon Gari village. He also visited the flooded areas on Yana–Shiva–Azare Road, the bridge along Bauchi–Gombe Road, and the washout at Ningi–Babaldu. Additionally, he flagged off the Bauchi-Gombe Road project, managed by Triacta Nig Limited. Umahi assured residents and road users that timely interventions would be made to address the flood impacts.

Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State praised the federal government for its prompt response, noting that the Minister’s visit to assess and address the road damage was appreciated. He expressed gratitude for the Federal Government’s proactive and responsive approach during the challenging situation.
